White Mountain National Forest is located primarily within the state of New Hampshire and a small portion is located within the state of Maine. The forest is comprised of three discontinuous areas and contains six designated Federal Wilderness Areas. 100 miles of the famous Appalachian Tail pass through the forest.

Family Hiking Day on the Appalachian Trail

On September 24, 2011, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) and its 31 Trail Clubs will be holding the first annual Family Hiking Day. The event is designed to introduce families to the Appalachian Trail and the benefits of a healthy outdoor lifestyle.

Lake Wawayanda is located to the East of the mountain and provides great paddle boating. The lake and nearby Wawayanda Creek offer fishing for Largemouth Bass, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, LandLocked Salmon and Yellow Perch.
