Appalachian Trail

Location

G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area is located primarily in Northwestern Fauquier County, Virginia and with portions in Clarke and Warren Counties. It is located within the Blue Ridge Mountain range and elevations range from 700 to 2200 feet.

Location

White Mountain National Forest is located primarily within the state of New Hampshire and a small portion is located within the state of Maine. The forest is comprised of three discontinuous areas and contains six designated Federal Wilderness Areas. 100 miles of the famous Appalachian Tail pass through the forest.

On September 24, 2011, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) and its 31 Trail Clubs will be holding the first annual Family Hiking Day. The event is designed to introduce families to the Appalachian Trail and the benefits of a healthy outdoor lifestyle.

Location

Wawayanda State Park is located within Sussex and Passaic Counties, New Jersey. Wawayanda Mountain is a prominent feature of the park and offers scenic views of the area.

Lake Wawayanda is located to the East of the mountain and provides great paddle boating. The lake and nearby Wawayanda Creek offer fishing for Largemouth Bass, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, LandLocked Salmon and Yellow Perch.

Location

Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge is located primarily in Sussex County, New Jersey and with portions in Orange County, New York. The refuge protects 9 miles of the Wallkill River and the surrounding lands in the Wallkill Valley. The habitat includes grassland and old fields, upland forest, forested wetlands and marshland.
