Maryland offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor recreation for families. The state offers a variety of terrain, including woodlands, coastline and mountains. The Chesapeake Bay Region is a the largest estuary of within the United States and is home to a wealth of wildlife.

There are wide range of outdoor activities and destinations within MD. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources manages 45 state parks. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking within Maryland and a 41-mile portion of the famed Appalachian Trail runs through the state, with elevations ranging from 230 to 1,880 feet.
