Minnesota Outdoor Destinations

Minnesota is known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" and offers a wide range of outdoor recreation for families. The large number of bodies of water provide plenty of boating and fishing, but there are also rugged lands for hiking, camping and other recreation.

There are 68 state parks, 22 state trails, 5 National Parks and a number of other protected areas to explore. Minnesota's state park system is the second oldest in the United States. Itasca State Park was the first state park in Minnesota and was created in 1891. The newest member of the state park system is Lake Vermillion State Park, which was created in 2010.
