North Dakota Outdoor Destinations
North Dakota is part of the Great Plains region of the United States and contains varied terrain, including the rugged Badlands. Within the Badlands is the state's highest point, the 3,506-foot White Butte. The Missouri River flows through the state and the largest natural lake is Devils Lake.
Despite being a large state by area, it is the third least populous in the country. There is considerable open space for families to explore, including Theodore Roosevelt National Park, 13 state parks, 8 state recreation areas and 7 state nature preserves and natural areas.
