Location
Sourland Mountain Preserve is located in Hillsborough, New Jersey and is part of the Somerset County Park System. The preserve contains the northeast portion of the Sourland Region and features many outcrops.
The preserve offers family several opportunities within a quiet setting, including hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The white-blazed Ridge Trail is 5 miles long and ranges in difficulty from easy to moderate. An extension to the trail extends to Roaring Brook and a large boulder field.
Sourland Mountain is home to a variety of wildlife. Mammals include the red fox, gray fox, coyote and white-tailed deer. The preserve also is home to unique birds like the Barred Owl and Grasshopper Sparrow.
