Yellowstone National Park is a vast area of wilderness that is located primarily in Northwest Wyoming and also has portions within the states of Montana and Idaho. It was established as a park by U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872. It is especially notable as being the world's first National Park.

The park sits above the Yellowstone Caldera, which is the largest supervolcano in North America. There are numerous geothermal features throughout the park, including the famous Old Faithful geyser.

There are a wide range of outdoor activities for families to enjoy in Yellowstone. More than 1100 miles of trails provide a wealth of hiking. Trail difficulty varies and changing conditions like weather and bear sightings should be considered before setting out. There are over 2100 campsites throughout the park for families interested in camping the night.

Yellowstone is rich with wildlife and has the largest concentration of mammals within the Lower 48 United States. Over 65 species of mammals live within the park, including grizzly bear, black bear, mountain lion, wolf, fox, coyote, moose and bison. Over 310 species of birds have been identified within the park, including Bald Eagles.

The National Park Service provides a downloadable Yellowstone National Park Trip Planner.
